Dr. Martin Luther King once said, “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great of a burden to bear.” I agree. I could sit here and rant about how racism is still prevalent and how we’re never going to live in truly culture blind society but I will not do that. I will say that I have learned that the world is broken. That is the essence of the world. Why do you think Jesus came and died on the cross my friend? Why would we need a spotless lamb if we were perfect? The band Life in Your Way says it best in the following introduction to the song The Kingdom of God.
"Some of you need to hear this for the first time, and so this is from our hearts...
The Kingdom of God is for the burnouts, the broken, and the broke, the drug addicts, the divorced, the HIV positive, the herpes-ridden, the hopeless, for the outcasts that have been created by the church, and for the outcasts of our society that have been created by us. The Kingdom of God is for the brain damaged..., the incurably ill, for the barren, for the pregnant too many times, and the pregnant at the wrong time. This is for the over-employed, the underemployed, the unemployable, and the unemployed. This is for the swindled, the shoved aside, the left aside, the replaced, the incompetent, and the stupid. This is for the emotionally starved and the emotionally dead. The Kingdom of God is for the bigoted, the murderers, the child molesters, the brutals, the drug lords, the terrorists, the perverted, the raging alcoholics, over consumers, the incredibly ugly, the dumb, the ignorant, the starving, the filled, and the filthy rich. The Kingdom of God is for everyone and the Kingdom of God is for me."

The Kingdom of God is for everyone. We may never exist in a world that shows justice to every person but like Dr. King echoes, love can change anything. And while we do honor Dr. King today for his passion for justice, his cry for equality, and his dream of a better future, let us also remember that Dr. King sat under a higher authority, Jesus Christ. Christ spoke the loudest cry of justice, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love yourself. Love your neighbor. You cannot love your neighbor unless you love yourself. And Paul said, “If I could speak in any language in heaven or earth but didn’t love others, I would only be making meaningless noise like a loud gong or a clinging cymbal” 1 Cor. 13: 1. If you call yourself a Christian, and you judge others because they’re a different culture, a different socioeconomic status, a different age, or a different sex, you need to check yourself. And when you find that prejudice inside yourself, lay it at the cross, because like the song says “the Kingdom of God is for me.”
